Medtronic announces FDA approval for MiniMed 770G insulin pump system

FDA approval for MiniMed 770G insulin pump system

We’re excited to announce the next innovation in Medtronic Diabetes technology. On September 1st, 2020, Medtronic received FDA approval for the MiniMedTM 770G system! This new insulin pump system builds on the MiniMedTM 670G system, providing smartphone connectivity and an expanded age indication to ages 2 and up.

With the MiniMedTM 770G system, you get the same great technology you know and love from the MiniMedTM 670G system, but now with the ability to see your sugar levels from your (or a care partner’s) smartphone. Here’s what you can expect:

  • For people on the MiniMedTM  770G system, the MiniMedTM  Mobile app mirrors the pump screen to allow you to see your pump and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data on your personal phone. You’ll also receive notifications from your system with alerts or alarms when you’re heading out of range. The MiniMedTM  Mobile app works on both iPhone and Android devices.

  • For care partners, the CareLinkTM  Connect app provides visibility to pump and CGM data so they can view sugar levels in real time, even when not close by. The app also allows care partners to receive text notifications if sugar levels are out of range.

  • Smartphone connectivity allows those living with diabetes and their care partners to view insulin delivery and bolus information on their mobile device.

  • The MiniMedTM  770G system is also enabled for future software upgrades, once such software upgrades are available. Customers will be offered a software upgrade at no charge through December 2021.1

  • We’re also excited to share this new system is approved for ages 2 and older!

  • The MiniMedTM  770G has SmartGuardTM  Auto Mode, which means it automatically adjusts2 background insulin every five minutes, 24 hours a day, based on your unique insulin needs. The goal of this automated insulin delivery is to help maximize the time glucose levels are within the target range and to help minimize highs and lows.

The MiniMedTM  770G system includes an insulin pump, a CGM system (with GuardianTM  Sensor 3), diabetes management software (CareLinkTM  Personal software), the MiniMedTM  Mobile app, CareLinkTM  Connect app, and a blood glucose meter (Roche Accu-Chek Guide Link meter). For more information on compatible devices, infusion sets, and other products, check out the technical specifications here.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: MINIMED™ 770G SYSTEM WITH SMARTGUARD™ TECHNOLOGY

The MiniMed™ 770G system is intended for continuous delivery of basal insulin (at user selectable rates) and administration of insulin boluses (in user selectable amounts) for the management of type 1 diabetes mellitus in persons two years of age and older requiring insulin as well as for the continuous monitoring and trending of glucose levels in the fluid under the skin. The MiniMed™ 770G system includes SmartGuard™ technology, which can be programmed to automatically adjust delivery of basal insulin based on continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor glucose (SG) values and can suspend delivery of insulin when the SG value falls below or is predicted to fall below predefined threshold values.
The Medtronic MiniMed™ 770G system consists of the following devices: MiniMed™ 770G insulin pump, the Guardian™ Link (3) transmitter, the Guardian™ Sensor (3), one-press serter, the Accu-Chek® Guide Link blood glucose meter, and the Accu-Chek® Guide test strips. The system requires a prescription.
The Guardian™ Sensor (3) has not been evaluated and is not intended to be used directly for making therapy adjustments, but rather to provide an indication of when a fingerstick may be required. All therapy adjustments should be based on measurements obtained using a blood glucose meter and not on values provided by the Guardian™ Sensor (3).
All therapy adjustments should be based on measurements obtained using the Accu-Chek® Guide Link blood glucose meter and not on values provided by the Guardian™ Sensor (3). Always check the pump display to ensure the glucose result shown agrees with the glucose results shown on the Accu-Chek® Guide Link blood glucose meter. Do not calibrate your CGM device or calculate a bolus using a blood glucose meter result taken from an Alternative Site. It is not recommended to calibrate your CGM device when sensor or blood glucose values are changing rapidly, e.g., following a meal or physical exercise.
WARNING: Do not use the SmartGuard™ Auto Mode for people who require less than 8 units or more than 250 units of total daily insulin per day. A total daily dose of at least 8 units, but no more than 250 units, is required to operate in SmartGuard™ Auto Mode.

WARNING: Do not use the MiniMed™ 770G system until appropriate training has been received from a healthcare professional. Training is essential to ensure the safe use of the MiniMed™ 770G system.
Pump therapy is not recommended for people whose vision or hearing does not allow recognition of pump signals and alarms. Pump therapy is not recommended for people who are unwilling or unable to maintain contact with their healthcare professional. The safety of the MiniMed™ 770G system has not been studied in pregnant women. For complete details of the system, including product and important safety information such as indications, contraindications, warnings and precautions associated with system and its components, please consult http://www.medtronicdiabetes.com/important-safety-information#minimed-770g and the appropriate user guide at http://www.medtronicdiabetes.com/download-library.

Nicole the 670G is my 1st pump and I have been using it for about a year. The 670G and Guardian 3 have worked flawlessly for me. I have signed up for the upgrade and was curious if any ship dates have been established?

Thanks - Bob

Where can one find the Android App for the 770g. Mine should be showing up by the end of the month and I was hoping to get the app loaded and ready to go, but I can't seem to find which app on the Play Store is supposed to be used in conjunction with the new system.

When will medtronics offer a duel med pump, that includes not only insulin but glucagon as well, also known as the pancreas replacement pump. I am a type 1 Brittle with large point drop and increases. (Ex. My sugar is 170 and drops to 30 in minutes or 150 and raises to 350 in minutes as well, on Dec-16-2020 on the way to my PCP my sugar level dropped from 384 to 61 in 45 minutes after a meal and no bolus then recovered to 132 in an hour without help only to drop back in to the 70's 30 minutes after that) I must try to keep my sugar at or around 250 because of this unusual aspect of my diabetes. Can you offer any help?

Am I understanding correctly that the770G will automatically & continuously adjust one’s basal doses?
My husband is on the 630G. I know his basal will suspend for up to 2 hours if his Blood sugar goes too low. If if automatically increased when too high, it seems that would be very helpful.
Must the 770G be used with a smartphone? Can’t it be used only with the CGM sensors? Thanks.

Hi, Barbara. Yes, both the MiniMed 670G and MiniMed 770G systems include SmartGuard Auto Mode, which makes automatic adjustments to basal insulin based on data from the CGM system. The MiniMed 770G system can be used without connecting to a smartphone. If you'd like to learn more, please give our therapy specialists a call at 800.644.4633, option 3.

I'm currently using the 670G. What can I expect from the 770G beside sthe addition of connecting with a smart phone and software updates? Has the target value for blood sugar been lowered from 120 for the SmartGuard AutoMode? Are the sensors accuracy improved? How quickly can the cgms react to a rapid change in blood sugar? Thanks for sharing!

Great questions, Stuart. The MiniMed 770G system uses the same algorithm and sensor as the MiniMed 670G system but adds smartphone connectivity for individuals and their care partners, and an expanded age indication for ages 2 and up.

I have the 670g right now. My main complaint is that you cannot bolus remotely when in automode. Does the 770g allow this?

Great question, Christan. The MiniMed 770G system uses the same algorithm and doesn't allow for remote bolus when in SmartGuard Auto Mode.

Hello, my wife uses the 670G insulin pump combined with the continuous glucose monitor and apparently she is eligible for an upgrade to the 770G model. Before we initiate an upgrade, however, I wanted to make sure that all of the supplies she currently uses for the 670G can be used with the 770G (100% compatibility). The part numbers of the supplies she currently uses are: MMT-396, MMT-397, and the MMT-7020A.

Thank you,
Stuart

Does the 770 still use the same battery? I liked the AAA better using the AA makes the pump bigger. Seems like I also go through more batteries now than when it was a AAA. I also wish they had gone back to not having to do so much button pushing but it looks pretty much the same as the 670

Cathy, yes, the MiniMed 770G system uses a AA battery. If you have any questions about your pump and how it's functioning, please give our technical support team a call at 800.646.4633, option 1.

I am a 670G user considering a move to the 770G system. Please confirm:
-i presume the insulin pump reservoirs i use with 670G are compatible with 770G
-i presume the sensors used are also the same
-i presume since the sensor is the same, the number of calibrations and method of calibrating will be unchanged from the 670G system
-i presume the transmitter is new & different for 770G (bluetooth vs radio signal)
-i presume the new meter that comes with the pump for checking blood glucose will require different test strips than the Contour Next Link that came with the 670G and I am currently using
Thank you!

I have been using the Minimed 770G for over a year now. I can attest to its effectiveness and reliability in delivering quality results. The app on my phone allows me to view real-time blood sugar readings, which is an awesome feature. It's incredibly convenient, especially if you're diabetic or caretaker of someone who is!

Does the MiniMed 770G come in a smaller size? It is larger than my original 630 G pump and is much heavier as well. Sometimes I struggle to comfortably put it in my pick. For people who take lower doses of insulin, I was hoping the newest pump would come in a smaller size like my 630 G pump.
