Medtronic is working with the global community to change the way people manage diabetes. Together, we will transform diabetes care by expanding access, integrating care and improving outcomes, so people with diabetes can enjoy greater freedom and better health.

Under the leadership of Sean Salmon, Executive Vice President and President of the Diabetes Group, we operate two global business units to serve customers worldwide.

ADVANCED INSULIN MANAGEMENT is focused on empowering people with diabetes in need of insulin therapy to achieve better outcomes with smart, simple, accessible and connected solutions. It is made up of the following business segments:

  • Automated Delivery Systems (ADS) will focus on our core closed-loop insulin pump pipeline including our Advanced Hybrid Closed Loop system, Personalized Closed Loop system, and integration of Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Multiple Daily Injection Solutions (MDIS) will focus on defining and executing our full continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) portfolio, including GuardianTM Connect CGM system with Sugar.IQTM Diabetes Assistant.
  • Customer Retention and Experience (CRE) will focus on the product development of the core Consumables portfolio as well as creating programs to ensure the retention of existing customers. CRE will also be responsible for our Animas integration efforts and ensure we are serving these customers under a cohesive retention strategy.

Products and services include insulin pump systems, consumables and accessories, alternative insulin delivery, standalone CGM, injection port, diabetes management programs and solutions.

NON-INTENSIVE DIABETES THERAPIES is focused on addressing the needs of people living with type 2 diabetes who do not use intensive insulin regimens and provide solutions along the diabetes care continuum. The Non-Intensive Diabetes Therapies team, working together with our partners, people with diabetes, providers, and payers, is focused improving outcomes and redefining care management.

Products and services include professional standalone CGM, diabetes management programs and solutions.

Executive Vice President and President, Diabetes

Hooman Hakami was named Executive Vice President and Group President of Medtronic Diabetes in June of 2014. Hooman provides overall strategic direction and operational management of the Group’s three global business units.

Hooman came to Medtronic after more than 20 years at General Electric. He was President and CEO of Detection & Guidance Solutions at GE Healthcare from April 2012 until May 2014. In that role he led that company’s business specializing in x-ray based technology solutions. Previously he served as President and CEO of the Interventional Systems business based in France, and the Global Clinical Systems Services for GE Healthcare.

Hooman received his Bachelor in Business Administration degree in operations management from the University of Massachusetts, where he graduated cum laude in 1991. Away from work he enjoys travel, sports, and spending time with his family.
