An infusion set includes the thin plastic tubing that delivers insulin from the pump to your body. This tubing comes in different lengths to accommodate various needs. At the end of the tubing is either a soft, flexible cannula, or a stainless steel needle. The cannula, which is a small, tapered tube, is inserted under your skin in a spot such as your abdomen, thigh or buttocks. This spot is called your infusion site, and the infusion set remains in place for up to two or three days.
The MiniMed™ Quick-set™ infusion set has a 90°, soft cannula and is one of our most popular infusion sets. The MiniMed™ Quick-serter™ device may be used to insert the cannula under your skin. The MiniMed™ Quick-set™ infusion set is available in various tubing lengths and cannula lengths.
The MiniMed™ Silhouette™ infusion set is a soft cannula infusion set that can be inserted at a variety of angles. Ideal for individuals who are lean or live an active lifestyle, the MiniMed™ Silhouette™ infusion set offers comfort and flexibility by allowing you to choose your insertion angle.
The MiniMed™ Silhouette™ infusion set is available in various tubing lengths and cannula lengths.
The MiniMed™ Sil-serter™ insertion device is designed for use only with the MiniMed™ Silhouette™ infusion set. The MiniMed™ Sil-serter™ device allows you to insert the MiniMed™ Silhouette™ infusion set with just the press of a button.
The MiniMed™ Sure-T™ infusion set has a steel needle and an extra adhesive pad for a more secure connection. The MiniMed™ Sure-T™ infusion set is a very fine 29 gauge needle and is intended for individuals who prefer using a needle to infuse their insulin rather than a cannula. It comes in various tubing lengths and cannula lengths.
Infusion sets require a prescription and are indicated for the subcutaneous infusion of insulin from an infusion pump. Infusion sets are indicated for subcutaneous use only and not for intravenous (IV) infusion or the infusion of blood or blood products. Inaccurate medication delivery, infection and/or site irritation may result from improper insertion and maintenance of the infusion site. Before insertion, clean the insertion site with isopropyl alcohol. Remove the needle guard before inserting the infusion set. If using this infusion set for the first time, do the first set-up in the presence of your healthcare professional. Do not leave air in the infusion set. Prime completely. Check frequently to make sure the soft cannula remains firmly in place as you may not feel pain if it pulls out. The soft cannula must always be completely inserted to receive the full amount of medication. If the infusion site becomes inflamed, replace the set, and use a new site until the first site has healed. Replace the infusion set if the tape becomes loose, or if the soft cannula becomes fully or partially dislodged from the skin. Replace the infusion set every 48-72 hours per the accompanying instructions, or per your healthcare professional’s instructions.
