New Technology Guarantee Update

MiniMed 530G® with Enlite® System

Eligible Medtronic customers enrolled in our New Technology Guarantee program will begin receiving their MiniMed 530G with Enlite system in the next few months. The MiniMed 530G with Enlite system is a breakthrough, first-generation artificial pancreas system with Threshold Suspend Automation approved for people 16 and older with diabetes. Designed to mimic insulin delivery of a healthy pancreas, Medtronic’s system is the first in the U.S. that can automatically stop insulin delivery when sensor glucose values reach a preset threshold.

We will be contacting every eligible New Technology Guarantee participant to schedule product training and will be providing instructions on how to return their existing MiniMed Paradigm Revel insulin pump.

We are looking forward to providing the most advanced diabetes management tool to all of our eligible customers. Because of the popular demand, Medtronic will be calling New Technology Guarantee participants to schedule product trainings over the next few months. We are committed to working as quickly as possible to get you started on Medtronic Artificial Pancreas technology.

At Medtronic, we are excited to bring this new technology to our diabetes community. We will continue to communicate next steps and instructions to all our New Technology Guarantee customers as we partner in your diabetes care.

Questions and Answers
Q:Is the Medtronic New Technology Guarantee Program still open to customers?
A:No. New participants will not be able to enroll in the New Technology Guarantee program after September 27, 2013, the day Medtronic received FDA approval of the MiniMed 530G with Enlite system.
Q:I would like to re-confirm my eligibility. I recently purchased a Revel insulin pump and CGM from Medtronic and my order was opened within 10 days of each other. Will I receive your new technology under NTG?
A:Yes, if you enrolled into the program at the time of order placement and are 16 and older, you are eligible to receive the MiniMed 530G with Enlite through our New Technology Guarantee Program.
Q:How much will the New Technology Guarantee program cost me?
A:The New Technology Guarantee program is at no cost to you. We will replace your MiniMed Revel insulin pump and Sof-sensor with our brand new MiniMed 530G with Enlite at no cost to the New Technology Guarantee participants. This program is offered exclusively through Medtronic and will not be processed through your medical insurance.
Q:When will Medtronic start shipping the MiniMed 530G system? When will I receive training?
A:We are excited to begin shipping the MiniMed 530G system to customers in our New Technology Guarantee Program. Because there are so many orders to fulfill, it will take a few months to fill them, including providing training to each customer enrolled. We will contact you as soon as your system is ready to ship and we’ll also schedule your product training.
Q:Was my healthcare provider notified of this New Technology Guarantee program?
A:Yes, healthcare providers have been notified about our New Technology Guarantee program.
Q:What is the return policy for the new technology?
A:We expect you will be completely delighted with the Threshold Suspend feature in our new MiniMed 530G system, along with improvements to our Enlite sensor (it’s smaller, more comfortable and has improved accuracy). However, if you should decide to return the MiniMed 530G insulin pump, our usual return policy of 30 days applies.  To return the MiniMed 530G with Enlite system, customers must send back the full systems including the MiniMed 530G insulin pump.  The return policy is not applicable for the free Enlite sensors provided at training.
Q:I am enrolled in the New Technology Guarantee program, when can I expect my MiniMed 530G with Enlite shipment?
A:We are excited to start you on the new technology and will be fulfilling orders as soon as product is available. We will inform you of your shipment and training dates in the next few months.
Q:Will I be required to attend product training for both Revel and the MiniMed 530G with Enlite?
A:No, if we have not shipped your Revel pump & CGM yet, you will only need training on the MiniMed 530G with Enlite. We will be contacting you regarding your shipment and training dates as soon as we can. You will not need training on the Revel product at this point.
Q:I received my training and am now ready to return my Revel insulin pump to Medtronic. What products do I need to return?
A:You will only need to return your Revel insulin pump and Sof-sensors (if you purchased your Sof-sensors within 60 days of your training date). You received a return box when you received your MiniMed 530G insulin pump.

You DO NOT need to return the following items:

MiniLink transmitter (your existing transmitter works with the MiniMed 530G system)
MiniLink test plug
MiniLink charger
Infusion sets
Reservoirs
Infusion set insertion device
Bayer® CONTOUR NEXT LINK meter
Q:I was just trained on the Paradigm Revel insulin pump and CGM. Will I need new training on the MiniMed 530G system?
A:Yes. For you to get the most benefit out of the MiniMed 530G system, we strongly recommend that you participate in live product training. This system contains new features such as Threshold Suspend as well as the new Enlite sensor, which features an insertion process that is very different from the Sof-sensor. Training will help you get the most out of your insulin pump therapy and Enlite sensor.
Q:I really don’t have time for training. Is there an online option?
A:We strongly encourage customers to attend in-person training to learn about the new MiniMed 530G system. If you are unable to attend in-person training, we have an eLearning plan that includes an online learning module. We will contact you with product training available in your area and can discuss online training at that time.
Q:Can I select a different color insulin pump through New Technology Guarantee?
A:Yes. We'll be happy to order a pump color of your choosing. We also offer a variety of Skins to decorate your pump. You can view the many options available at http://medtronic.skinit.com/
Q:Will my MiniLink transmitter work with the MiniMed 530G with Enlite?
A:Yes, the MiniLink transmitter is the same. The MiniLink transmitter you used with the Revel pump is also compatible with the MiniMed 530G system.
Q:What should I do if my MiniLink transmitter is now out of warranty?
A:As long as your transmitter is working correctly you will be able to continue to use it. If your transmitter is no longer working, you would need to contact a Diabetes Therapy Consultant to place a new order. Please contact us at 800.646.4633 with any questions.
Q:I am an experienced Sof-sensor user. Do I need training for the Enlite sensor?
A:For you to get the most benefit out of the MiniMed 530G system, we strongly suggest you participate in live product training. This system contains new features such as Threshold Suspend, as well as the new Enlite sensor, which features a new insertion process much different than Sof-sensor.  Training will help you get the most out of your insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). You will be contacted for training as soon as your system is ready to be shipped.
Q:How much more will the Enlite sensors cost, compared to the current Sof-sensors that I am using?
A:The Enlite sensor (6 day sensor) is priced at $94.60/sensor compared to $43.90 for each Sof-sensor (3 day sensor) and will be reimbursed by your insurance according to their reimbursement guidelines. Depending on your insurance plan, the cost is aproximately $14.63 per day to wear the Sof-sensor and $15.76 per day to wear the Enlite sensor.
Q:I have three unopened boxes of Sof-sensors. Can I exchange them for Enlite?
A:You will be able to exchange up to two (2) unopened boxes of 10 Sof-sensors as long as they were purchased within 60 days of your scheduled training date. When we contact you to schedule your training, we will initiate a return authorization and email you a label to return your unopened boxes. You may also fill out an online form on the New Technology Guarantee website to initiate your exchange.
Q:I just purchased Sof-sensors. May I exchange them for Enlite sensors?
A:If you would like to exchange your unopened and unused Sof-sensors for Enlite sensors, you are able to do so for up to 2 boxes of 10 unopened Sof-sensors purchased within 60 days prior to your scheduled MiniMed 530G with Enlite product training. This is an exchange for Enlite sensors only and not a credit toward your account.

Please note, Sof-sensors are not labeled for use with the MiniMed 530G.

Once you are ready to exchange, please fill out a Sof-sensor exchange form and we will contact you with more information.
Q:Will my insurance company allow me to exchange my Sof-sensors for Enlite sensors?
A:Medtronic is offering this exchange free of charge and will not involve your insurance company. This will be handled through Medtronic only.
Q:Do I have to be trained before I’m able to place Enlite orders?
A:No, we’re happy to place an order for Enlite sensors; however, we strongly recommend you to attend your training session before using an Enlite sensor. In addition to the Enlite sensor that is provided in your pump shipment, you will receive two (2) Enlite sensors free of charge for your live product training.
Q:How long do I have to return my Revel insulin pump?
A:You will need to return your Revel insulin pump no later than 60 days after you’ve completed your MiniMed 530G with Enlite training. Please be sure to do this within the 60 days so your account is not be billed for the Revel insulin pump.
