Job Well Done! Recognizing Effective Diabetes Management

When you work hard and perform well at your job, it’s always nice to get a little recognition from the boss, right? We all know that managing diabetes effectively is no small task. So, when’s the last time someone recognized you for putting in the time and effort to take control of your diabetes? It probably doesn’t happen often enough.
That’s why we were so excited to participate in an event hosted by Dr. Mark Stesin and Dr. Christopher Schoonover in Minneapolis last week. Named the “2011 Diabetes Symposium & Patient Appreciation Event,” this event recognized 75 local patients who have been taking control of their diabetes with insulin pump therapy for more than five years. Each person received a medallion and certification to congratulate them for their commitment.
The event also featured presentations from patients, physicians, researchers and industry leaders. As part of this group, our very own Katie Szyman, president of the Diabetes business unit of Medtronic, underscored our ongoing investment in technology to improve diabetes care.
A big thanks goes out to Dr. Stesin and Dr. Schoonover for putting it all together. And now we’d like to know…
How long have you been pumping?
Or…
Is there anyone in your life you’d like to recognize for working hard to manage their diabetes? If so, give them a shout-out in the comments!

Interesting idea, as far as recognizing pumping for five years, Sounds similiar to what both Lilly and Joslin do in recognizing those People With Diabetes who have reached the 25, 50, 75 year marks – certificates and/or medals. That recognition is nice, and makes one look at the accomplishment and success of doing that for so long rather than just “going through the motions.” Thanks for recognizing those people in our Diabetes Community!
