Have you Met Lenny Yet?

Today we welcome Stephen Gray, Marketing Associate at Medtronic, who’s swinging by The LOOP to introduce you to his courageous friend Lenny the Lion – just in case you haven’t had the chance to meet him yet. As Stephen will tell you, Lenny’s a busy cat with a lot of friends, including Meri Schuhmacher and her four fabulous boys – three of whom have type 1 diabetes! Lenny is helping Meri celebrate her blogaversary (and recover from her adventurous trip to Disney Land) so be sure to stop by Our Diabetic Life this week to find out how you can win a Lenny the Lion doll!

Have you met Lenny yet? As an ambassador for children with diabetes, he’s one busy lion. Yep. You read that right – Lenny the Lion helps children and their families have COURAGE to manage diabetes effectively. In addition to attending diabetes camps and making surprise visits to doctors’ offices, Lenny can be found on the web and at local events teaching kids how to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle and to not let diabetes hold them back.

Lenny discovered he had diabetes in 2006. He now wears an insulin pump and works hard to provide families with helpful education and resources diabetes management. He recently launched his first free app for iPhone and iPad, “Carb Counting With Lenny.” The app is filled with games that make it fun for kids (and adults) to learn the basics of counting carbohydrates and can be downloaded from the Apple app store.

You never know what Lenny’s got up his sleeve (er, fur?), so be on the lookout for more to come from him this year. In the meantime, if you have a question or want to share your ideas for living courageously with diabetes, leave a comment below or email Lenny at He loves the DOC and has become quite good at typing with his paws, so he’ll be sure to write you back!
