A Message From Our President

Hi everyone, my name is Sean Salmon. I’m the new President of the Medtronic Diabetes business. As I’ve come into this role, I’ve spent much of my time listening to countless people in the community who live with diabetes or care for someone who has the disease and it’s been incredibly insightful to learn about the journey you’ve been on— the struggles, the successes, the triumphs. It’s truly inspirational to know that we can help support your diabetes journey so your life can be less burdened by a disease that’s with you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

While that’s really motivating to me and there are many exciting things on the horizon, it’s also been disheartening to know we’ve contributed to something that’s already difficult for you to deal with — whether that’s a supply issue or a challenge with our technology. There’s no better example of that than what happened most recently with the retainer ring recall. I know this caused concern and understandably prompted a lot of questions. I want to extend a sincere and personal apology to all of you on behalf of our company. We understand the important role our therapies have in your life — please know that your safety is our top priority and there’s nothing more important to us than that.

I want to make sure you understand what you need to do. There’s important information our teams have pulled together on www.medtronicdiabetes.com/PumpRing. The site walks you through the steps you need to take to check your pump. Make sure you visit the site and read the instructions carefully. While this is certainly not the first message I had hoped to share with you, I felt it was important and I’m committed to listening and making meaningful changes to better serve you. While this may not happen overnight, please know that you have my personal commitment that we’re going to work hard to do better. My priority is to make sure we understand your needs, innovate meaningfully to address those needs and provide a positive experience that supports you in the way you need it.
