Creating a CareLink Account

Did You Know: Even if you already have an online Medtronic account, a unique login will need to be created for CareLink.

  1. Visit the CareLink website, and from the Welcome screen click the Sign Up Now button and then the country and language you prefer.
  2. In order to accept the terms of agreement, ensure that all 3 boxes are checked and click Accept.
  3. Create a new username and password. Passwords are case-sensitive and can be any combination of letters or numbers from 4 to 20 characters. Once you complete the required fields, click Submit.
Uploading Your Data

Important: If you received a CareLink USB, do not insert the mini disc into your Mac computer as the CD may be unable to eject. The mini disc included with your CareLink USB only contains the CareLink USB User Guide, not required software drivers.

  1. Sign in to your account. If you have forgotten your password, use the self-service tool on the CareLink homepage listed as "Forgot your password?"
  2. Make sure you are on the Upload screen. Once the applet loads, the first device upload window is displayed.

Note: If your computer does not detect a Java plug-in or it detects a lower version than required, you will be prompted to install it. Follow the instructions on your screen until Java successfully installs before proceeding. For further troubleshooting with Java click here.

  1. Do not connect your USB device until prompted. Once you’ve connected your USB to your computer make sure your insulin pump is within 6 feet of the USB.
  2. Follow the instructions on the window. When you are ready to go to the next step, click Next > to display the next window. Follow the instructions on each window, making sure to click Next > when you are ready to move on.

Note: It is normal for your insulin pump to go into Suspend mode and stop dispensing insulin during the upload process. The software will automatically return it to normal operation when the upload process is complete.

  1. When you see the Verify Connections window, read the steps. This is to ensure you have properly set up communication between your computer and device. When you are ready to complete the upload, click Finish. A progress window will display to show the progress of your device upload. If for any reason you wish to stop the upload, click Cancel. If you experience interruptions in the upload, try turning off or moving away from common electronic devices such as cell phones or cordless phones.
  2. Read and follow the instructions on the screen. When the upload completes successfully, the "SUCCESS!" message will display.

Warning: If you click on another tab or link during an upload, the upload will be canceled. You can also stop the upload by clicking Cancel.

Uploading Your Meter & Multiple Devices

CareLink Personal can be used with a variety of insulin pumps and blood glucose (BG) meters. Make sure to start up your Mac in 32-bit kernel mode whenever you want to upload your BG meter. By default, most Mac computers start in 32-bit kernel mode.

Uploading a Linked BG Meter: If you have a MiniMed System with a linked meter, you only need to upload the data in your insulin pump. Remember, the meter data stored in the pump will be uploaded at the same time as the pump data.

Uploading a Non-linked BG Meter: If you have a third-party standard BG meter you wish to upload, you will have to upload your BG meter and insulin pump in two separate upload sessions. Uploading non-linked meters in addition to your pump may cause you to have duplicate data. To upload data from your non-linked BG meter, first make sure you have the correct cable for your operating system.

Note: You will need to use the serial cable and USB to serial adapter compatible with your devices and operating system because the software drivers for USB cables provided by meter manufacturers are not Mac compatible.
